Colonial Leather Aboriginal Art Guitar Strap - Beetles
Beetles Art by Audrey Martin Napanangka
Audrey Martin Napanangka is a well-known aboriginal artist. Most of her designs are colourful, neat and bold. In this artwork, “Witchety Grub”, Audrey skilfully created the ideal bush environment with witchety grubs, honey ants, bush flowers, fruits etc. There are a number of different grubs available, depending on where you collect them, i.e. witchety grub from the witchety bush, river red gum grub, Coolibah tree gum, Whitewood tree grub, Ironwood tree grub, Prickly wattle grub and Elephant grub.
The grubs are edible either raw or lightly cooked on hot ashes. They are sought out as a high protein food by Aboriginals. The raw grub tastes like almond or banana. The grub is an important insect food of the desert and has historically been a staple food in the diets of Aboriginal people.
Beetles Aboriginal Art fabric sewn on 50mm webbing with 3mm genuine leather ends.
